My Free Online Summer Poetry Reading List

wait, what is this?

I love poetry. I love reading. I love reading poetry.

I also like the comfort of my own home and not spending money. And not spending money from the comfort of my own home. A dilemma?

          I think not.

Below you can find my summer reading list or, rather, a list of poets and places where works are available for free online. I hope you enjoy reading with me!

– cates

Alice Friman

“Seeing It Through” instantly became one of my favorite poems the moment I read it, so it would make sense that I read the rest of her poetry as well. Because life doesn’t make sense sometimes, that hasn’t happened quite yet. Hopefully it’ll happen this summer.

A good number of her poems appear on the always reliable Poetry Foundation website, so it looks like I’ll be headed there soon.

Kiki Petrosino

I’ve heard good things about her poetry but unfortunately could not tell you anything about it. That’ll change. Just you wait.

Her poetry is also available on the Poetry Foundation website. Shocker.

Wendy Xu

She’s a highly decorated poet, so if other people like her, I probably should, too. She seems nice.

Yeah, good ol’ Poetry Foundation again. It’s like the poetry supermarket, but like a really nice supermarket with poetry and stuff.

John Ashbery

I’ve been told my poetry is reminiscent of the New York School to which Ashbery belongs. Reading his poetry should illuminate whether that comparison is a compliment.

Poetry Foundation again. Shocking, I know.

Shane McCrae

Let’s have some political poetry, shall we?

I thought for a second that he wasn’t on the Poetry Foundation website. I had just misspelled his name. Two c’s, cates. Two c’s.

Morgan Parker

I was struck by the title of her book There Are More Beautiful Things Than Beyoncé because first of all how dare you but also okay fine I’m sure you have a point.

Poetry Foundation. That’s about it.

Rupi Kaur

It just has to happen. I need to get Instapoetry. Also, aesthetic.

Ha, finally! Someone whose poetry isn’t on the Poetry Foundation website! It’s on Instagram though, obvs.

danez smith

It’s one thing to read about a poet in the blogosphere and another to hear about them in person. Smith’s impact and accolades make reading their poetry a natural decision.

Poetry Foundation is back for more reading.

Alex Dimitrov

His poetry sounds sad. I’m here for it.

Poetry Foundation, etc.

William shakespeare

I think this one’s self-explanatory.

Happy reading!
